Morel (2017)

“Morel” documents the last years of a temporary off-space. Spazio Morel opened in early 2017 in a former Fiat dealership and repair shop, one of the last industrial buildings left in Lugano, Switzerland.

Under an agreement with the new landowners, a collective of young people transformed the half-derelict building and gave it a new life and purpose. Concerts, art exhibitions, and social and artistic experiments took place there regularly, all in an ephemeral, evocative atmosphere.

Spazio Morel closed its doors for the last time at the end of summer 2019. After several years of legal challenges, the building was demolished in 2025 to make way for three seven-storey residential buildings: a project worth around 70 million Swiss francs, bringing luxury apartments and high-end services to the area.
